Oxidation

A chemical change in which a substance combines with oxygen, like when iron forms rust

Real World Example

Imagine the frustration of leaving a bicycle outside, only to find it covered in dust and grime over time. This process is similar to oxidation, where a substance like iron gradually changes when exposed to oxygen, forming rust. Just as the dust and grime accumulate on the bike, oxygen molecules in the air latch onto the iron surface, creating rust; both processes involve an external element altering the original state of an object over time.
