Imagine trying to make a sandwich when the two slices of bread in your kitchen keep moving apart from each other. This is similar to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the Earth's tectonic plates are gradually drifting apart on the ocean floor. Just like you need to bring the bread slices together to make your sandwich, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the boundary where the oceanic crust is pulling apart, creating new crust as magma rises to fill the gap, much like trying to fill the space between the bread with sandwich ingredients.
