Elements in the same vertical column of the periodic table
Real World Example
Imagine you're at a family reunion, trying to remember which relatives belong to which branch of the family tree. Just like family members from the same branch tend to share certain characteristics and stories, elements in the same vertical column of the periodic table, known as a group, share similar chemical properties. The connection here is that just as family members from the same lineage have inherited traits, elements in the same group have similar outer electron configurations, which dictate their reactivity and interactions with other elements.
