Forms hydrogen ions when dissolved in water

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to dissolve sugar in your coffee, but it only properly mixes once you stir it. Similarly, an acid like hydrochloric acid (HCl) doesn't release hydrogen ions until it dissolves in water, much like how the sugar needs the coffee to mix. Just as stirring helps disperse the sugar evenly in the coffee, water acts as a medium that allows the acid to release its hydrogen ions, spreading them throughout the solution.
