Exothermic Reaction

A heat-releasing chemical reaction, like burning or combustion

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to clean out your closet, and you decide to give away a big pile of old clothes. Just like giving away those clothes makes your closet feel more spacious and less cluttered, an exothermic reaction releases energy to its surroundings, usually in the form of heat. In this analogy, your closet is like a chemical system, and the old clothes are the stored energy; when you let go of them, your closet (or the chemical reaction) feels lighter and releases that energy into your room, warming it up, just as an exothermic reaction releases heat into the environment.
