Fossil

The preserved traces and remains of an organism that lived long ago
Real World Example
Imagine you’re trying to find out what someone was cooking last night based on the smell lingering in the kitchen. Just like the scent is a clue to what was cooked, fossils are clues that tell us about organisms that lived long ago. In this analogy, the lingering smell is like the fossil, providing evidence of past activity (cooking or organisms) even when the source (the meal or the organism) is no longer present.
