Epoch

A unit of geologic time longer than an age but shorter than a period
Real World Example
Imagine you're organizing your closet, trying to make sense of all your clothing items. Just like sorting clothes into categories like shirts, pants, and jackets, geologists use epochs to categorize chunks of Earth's history, which are longer than ages (like organizing by color within each clothing category) but shorter than periods (like the overall categories of clothing). In this analogy, the shirts, pants, and jackets are the periods, the different colors within each category are the epochs, and individual pieces of clothing are the ages, helping to neatly organize Earth's vast history into manageable parts.
