The gradual wearing away of a metal through chemical reactions

Real World Example

Imagine leaving a slice of bread out on the counter for too long, and it gradually becomes stale and moldy. Just like the bread breaking down because of exposure to air and environmental factors, metal corrodes over time due to chemical reactions with its surroundings. In this analogy, the bread represents the metal, and the staleness and mold represent the corrosion, both outcomes of their interactions with elements around them.
