The distance in degrees north or south of the equator
Real World Example
Imagine you're trying to figure out how far you are from your favorite coffee shop in the city. Just like you measure the distance to understand how far you are from the shop, latitude helps us measure how far a location is from the equator on Earth. In this analogy, the coffee shop represents the equator, the city map represents the Earth, and the degrees of latitude are like the distance markers that tell you how far north or south you are from the equator, just as you measure blocks or miles to the coffee shop.
