Real World Example

Imagine you've lost the recipe for your grandmother’s famous cookies, and no one else knows how to make them. This situation is similar to extinction because just as the recipe is lost forever, so is a species when its last member dies. In both cases, whether it's the cookie recipe or a species, the unique combination of ingredients or genetic traits is gone for good when there's no one left to pass it on or recreate it.
