Transitional Species

Imagine you're moving from an old house to a new one, but you haven't fully settled in yet, so you have belongings scattered between both places. This situation is similar to transitional species, which have both "primitive" traits from their ancestral lineage and derived traits that are more advanced or specialized. Just as you might still use your old couch while enjoying a new kitchen appliance in your new home, transitional species retain certain ancient features while also displaying newer adaptations that indicate evolutionary progress.
