Net Ionic Equation

An ionic equation that shows only the particles that undergo a change in a reaction

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to organize your closet and you decide to keep only the clothes you actually wear, getting rid of the rest. This is similar to a net ionic equation because it focuses only on the elements that actively participate in the chemical reaction, ignoring the rest. Just as you sort through your closet to find the clothes that are truly useful to you, a net ionic equation highlights only the ions and molecules that undergo change, leaving out the "spectator ions" that don't participate, much like the clothes that just take up space without being worn.
