Single-replacement Reaction

A chemical reaction where one element replaces another element in a compound
Real World Example
Imagine you're at a crowded party, and you notice that your friend is there but stuck talking to someone they don't really get along with. This situation is similar to a single-replacement reaction, where one element takes the place of another in a compound. Just like you might step in to replace the person your friend doesn't enjoy talking to, in a single-replacement reaction, an element in the compound is swapped out for another, leading to a new combination.
