The distance an object travels per unit of time

Real World Example

Have you ever tried to finish your morning coffee before leaving the house, only to realize you're running late? Just like trying to gauge how much coffee you can drink in the time you have left, speed is about how much distance an object can cover in a given amount of time. In this way, the coffee cup is like the distance, your time before leaving is the unit of time, and how quickly you sip represents the speed at which you're trying to finish it.
