The individuals best suited to survive in an environment

Real World Example

Imagine you're at a crowded airport trying to get through security quickly with different lines moving at different speeds. Just like how you have to choose the right line to make your flight on time, organisms in nature have traits that help them "choose" the best way to survive and thrive in their environment. Just as picking the fastest-moving line increases your chances of catching your flight, organisms with advantageous traits are better suited to survive and reproduce, passing those traits on to future generations.
