Recessive Trait
Loading image...
A trait that is masked from a dominant allele
Real World Example
Imagine you're at a crowded party trying to listen to your favorite song, but a much louder pop song is playing over the speakers. Just like the pop song drowns out the music you want to hear, a dominant allele can mask the presence of a recessive trait. In this analogy, the dominant pop song represents the dominant allele, overpowering the quieter song you wish to hear, which symbolizes the recessive trait that only becomes noticeable when the dominant allele is not present.
