Imagine you're trying to pick up small, slippery coins that have fallen into the tight spaces of your couch cushions. Just like you might use a flexible, elongated tool with a sticky or suctioned end to reach and grab those coins, echinoderms use their tube feet for a similar purpose. In this analogy, the hollow tubes of the tube feet are like the flexible tool that allows you to navigate tight spaces, while the suction cup ends act like the sticky or suctioned tips that grip and retrieve the coins, enabling the echinoderms to move around and collect food from the nooks and crannies of the ocean floor.
