The top surface of underground water
Real World Example
Imagine trying to find the perfect balance when pouring soda into a glass to avoid it spilling over. Just like the soda reaches a certain level in the glass, the water table is the level at which underground water saturates the soil, forming a surface. The water table is to the ground what the soda's surface is to the glass; both represent the point where the liquid has reached its capacity to be contained.
