Oxbow Lake

A U-shaped lake that forms when a meander is cut off from a river
Real World Example
Imagine trying to untangle a long, twisted headphone cable that has been looping around itself. Just like how the cable forms loops as it twists, a river naturally creates large bends called meanders as it flows across flat land. When a river meander becomes too tight, much like a tangled cable that you decide to bypass by using wireless headphones, the river might cut through the narrow neck of the loop, leaving a U-shaped oxbow lake behind, similar to how you leave the tangled part of the cable aside.
