Science
Biology
The scientific study of life. Biology. Biology is the branch of science that explores living organisms and their interactions with the environment.
Control
The standard used for comparison of test results in an experiment. A control is a part of an experiment that is not changed so you can compare how other parts change.
Data
Information gathered through observation. Data. In Science, data is the raw facts and figures collected during experiments or research to analyze and draw conclusions.
Dependent variable
The factor measured at the end of an experiment. Dependent variable. In science, a dependent variable is what you measure to see the effect of changes in the experiment.
Evolution
The change in a species over time. Evolution. Evolution is the process by which living organisms develop and diversify from earlier forms through gradual changes over generations.
Experiment
Testing a hypothesis by collecting data in controlled conditions. Experiment. An experiment is a test where scientists change something to see what happens.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of the stable internal conditions in an organism. Homeostasis. It is how living things keep their internal environment balanced, like keeping a constant body temperature.
Hypothesis
A possible explanation or answer to a scientific question. Hypothesis. A hypothesis is a testable idea or prediction about how something works that can be verified through experiments.
Independent variable
The variable which is manipulated by the researcher. Independent variable. In Science, the independent variable is the one that is changed to observe its effect on other variables.
Inference
A logical assumption based on prior experience. Inference. In science, inference is when you make a conclusion based on evidence and reasoning.
Metabolism
The sum of all chemical reactions in an organism. Metabolism. Metabolism is how your body converts food into energy and building blocks for growth, repair, and maintaining life.
Observation
The process of using your senses to gather information. Observation. In science, observation is the act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, systematic way.
Organism explained in an easy to understand way.
Reproduction explained in an easy to understand way.
An organized process of gathering evidence about the natural world. Science. Science is the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
Species explained in an easy to understand way.
Stimulus
Anything that causes an organism to react. Stimulus. In science, a stimulus is something that triggers a response from a living thing.
Theory
Explanation of observations supported by evidence. Theory. In Science, a theory is a well-substantiated explanation of aspects of the natural world based on evidence and repeated testing.
