Imagine trying to carry a large shopping bag that feels heavier the longer you hold it. This is similar to how weight is the measure of the force of gravity pulling on an object. Just as the weight of the shopping bag depends on how strongly it pulls down on your arm, the weight of an object depends on how strongly gravity pulls it toward the Earth.
