Imagine trying to separate the colors in a single-colored crayon. This is similar to the concept of an element, which is a substance made of one type of atom that cannot be broken down chemically. Just as you can't divide the crayon into different colors because it's made of one solid color, an element can't be broken down into simpler substances because it consists entirely of one type of atom.
