Translucent

Allows some light to pass through but scatters it

Real World Example

Imagine trying to have a private conversation in a busy coffee shop, where some of your words are heard by the person you're talking to, but the rest are drowned out by the surrounding noise. This scenario is similar to how translucent materials work because they allow some light to pass through while scattering the rest. Just as your conversation gets partially through to your friend while being mixed with the chatter around you, translucent materials let some light through while diffusing it, making the details harder to discern.
