The ability to do work

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to get out of bed on a cold, dreary morning, but you just can't seem to muster the motivation. This struggle is similar to the idea of energy, which is the ability to do work, in that both require a certain "push" or capacity to initiate action. Just as you need that internal motivation or energy to propel yourself out of bed and start your day, energy in the scientific sense is what enables objects or systems to perform tasks and cause changes, like moving, lifting, or heating—without it, nothing gets done.
