Real World Example

Imagine trying to find the right ingredients for a specific dish in a cluttered kitchen pantry. Just like each ingredient in the pantry is necessary for making a particular dish, a gene is a specific part of a chromosome that provides the instructions (DNA) for a certain trait. In this analogy, the pantry represents the chromosome, the ingredients are the genes, and the recipe they contribute to making is the trait they express.
