Element

A substance made of one type of atom that cannot be broken down chemically
Real World Example
Imagine trying to sort a jar full of different colored candies when you only want to end up with a jar of just one color. Similarly, an element is like having a jar with only red candies — it's pure and made up of only one type of thing, in this case, one type of atom. Just as you cannot sort red candies into smaller, different colors because they are all the same, an element cannot be broken down into anything simpler because it's already in its most basic form.
