Real World Example

Imagine you have a favorite pair of socks, but one day you lose one of them in the laundry. This is similar to a chromatid because each sock represents one half of a pair, just as each chromatid is one half of a duplicated chromosome. In this analogy, the full pair of socks is like the complete duplicated chromosome, and the single sock is like a chromatid—each necessary for the complete pair, just as each chromatid is necessary for the full genetic information of the chromosome.
