A layer of molten nickel and iron that surrounds Earth's inner core
Real World Example
Imagine trying to bake a cake with a gooey center and a solid crust. Just like that cake, Earth's outer core is a layer of molten nickel and iron that envelops the solid inner core. The gooey, molten part of the cake represents the outer core, which flows around the solid inner portion, much like how the molten metal flows around the solid inner core of the Earth.
