Imagine trying to move a heavy piece of furniture across a carpeted floor, where it seems like you're making little progress at each push. This slow and steady movement mirrors the way continents drift across the Earth's surface, inching forward at a pace that is almost imperceptible. Just as each nudge of the furniture gradually shifts its position over time, tectonic forces beneath the Earth's crust continuously nudge continents along their paths, causing them to drift slowly across the planet's surface.
