A system of government in which an autocrat, possesses supreme and absolute power

Real World Example

After World War II, many new nations emerged as former colonies gained independence. Some of these countries adopted autocratic governments, where a single leader held all the power, in response to instability or a desire for strong leadership to quickly build their nations. Autocratic leaders often promised order and rapid development, which appealed to people tired of colonial rule and chaos. Today, autocratic systems still exist, and they matter because they can limit personal freedoms, control information, and affect citizens' rights. For example, in an autocratic country, a person might have fewer opportunities to express their opinions openly or participate in free elections, impacting their daily life and future.
